Blackened Tilapia

Blackened Tilapia

2 Tilapia filets

2-3 Tablespoons Grapeseed or Olive Oil

Spice Rub:

1 1/2 Tablespoons Paprika

1/2 Teaspoon Salt

1/2 Tablespoon Onion Powder

1/2 Teaspoon fresh ground Pepper

1/4 Teaspoon Cayenne Pepper (add more if you like your food spicy, this had enough of a kick for me!)

1/2 Teaspoon dried Thyme

1/2 Teaspoon dried Oregano

1/4 Teaspoon Garlic Powder


Step 1 Preheat oven to 425.    Mix spices together in a bowl.

Step 2 Coat the inside of a baking pan with oil.  Dry each filet and then lightly coat with oil as well.

Step 3 Coat both sides of Tilapia with Spice rub and actually rub it in, so that the fish is not just coated, but massaged with spicy goodness.  Now you are ready to cook (how easy is this???!).

Step 4 Cook fish for 10-12 minutes depending on the thickness of the fish.  Flip once halfway through if you would like a hardened crust on both sides of your fish.

Once completed serve with a slice of lemon, tartar sauce, or your favorite condiment (hot sauce anyone?).  Add a side of veggies or veggie slaw and enjoy!

This was my first attempt at blackening anything and it was simple, delicious, but different from the flavors I usually cook.  I cannot wait to experiment with new spices and get creative with different fish!  Yay!  I love when I find a new fun way of cooking delicious food!  Enjoy!
